CONSUL GENERAL ANGELICA  ESCALONA MEETS WITH THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY FOR THE FIRST TIME

Toronto, 26 May 2023 – New Philippine Consul General in Toronto Angelica C. Escalona hosted a gathering at the Philippine Consulate General on 26 May 2023 to meet leaders and representatives of Filipino community groups in Ontario.

The Consul General assumed her duties on 17 May 2023.

Around 70 Filipino community leaders and representatives attended the event. They had the opportunity to ask the Consul General questions and share their views on how the community and the Consulate can work more closely on a number of matters.

According to Consul General Escalona, “My priorities during my assignment in Toronto include the further improvement of consular services, working with the members of the Filipino community on projects and activities that are meaningful to them, and working with the government and people of Canada to promote the interests of the Philippines and the Filipino community.” (END)

Toronto, 29 April 2023 – The personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto held its spring team building and wellness activity facilitated by Mr. Dionisio Mabalot, Consultant at DMG Consulting, at Meadovale Conservaion Area in Mississauga, Ontario. The team building and the group activities are intended to help develop a strong workplace culture and encourage team collaboration and communication among personnel. END

Toronto, 29 April 2023 – Mr. Mike Cruz better known as Coach Mike in the Filipino community, one of the owners of MB the Place to Be, participated in the 2023 Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC). MB the Place to be, a repeat restaurant for the 2023 FRMC, offered lauriat for its prix fixe this year. Diners could choose from a bountiful serving of BBQ, fried chicken or lechon kawali that includes portions of pancit canton, lumpiang shanghai, siomai, rice and leche flan.

“MB the Place to Be” which is used to be Music Box (MB), is a place for music lovers where guests are welcome to use the available karaoke in the restaurant or just relax and enjoy listening to the soothing voice of the regular acoustic singer. Mr. Cruz, who could also sing, readily entertained the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General with a rendition of Original Pilipino Music (OPM). END

Toronto, 28 April 2023 – Islas Filipino BBQ & Bar owners, Ms. Mariel Buenaventura and Chef Mark Buenaventura, rejoined the second edition of the 2023 Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC). Chef Buenaventura meticulously chose the menu for Islas’ prix fixe offering for FRMC: starter- Filipino peanut slaw, lumpiang shanghai or empanada; entrée- skewered pork, chicken barbecue or chicken adobo; and dessert- halo-halo or karioka. Ms. Buenaventura shared with the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General that their prix fixe offering became a best seller among their regular customers.END
