29 July 2023, Mississauga – The Philippine Consulate General conducted a weekend consular outreach service at the Kalayaan Cultural Community Centre (KCCC) in Mississauga.
During the outreach, a total 63 clients were provided consular services. In addition, 22 former Filipinos and their dependents took their oath of re-acquisition of Filipino citizenship under Republic Act 9225, and a total of 24 overseas voters were processed for registration and correction of entries in their records.
The SSS Representative and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Toronto also provided their services to interested applicants.
The outreach was co-organized by the KCCC. It is part of the Consulate General’s efforts to bring its services closer to communities within its jurisdiction. “We are very thankful for the Consulate bringing their services to us. We hope that the outreach can be conducted again in Kalayaan” one of clients expressed during the outreach. END

Philippine National Treasurer Rosalia V. De Leon speaking to the Filipino-Canadian community on the benefits of investing in Philippine government retail instruments
14 July 2023, Toronto – The Philippine Bureau of Treasury and the Land Bank of the Philippines conducted a Financial Literacy Session on national government retail instruments for the Filipino-Canadian community at the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto on 14 July 2023. More than 80 participants listened to the Philippine macroeconomics presentation of Department of Finance Undersecretary Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja and the announcement of Treasurer Rosalia V. De Leon on the upcoming third quarter 2023 launch of the Philippines’ next dollar bond offering, the RDB 2.
Landbank Senior Vice President Gonzalo Benjamin A. Bongolan provided detailed information on the different platforms that overseas Filipinos can use to invest directly in Philippine retail instruments using mobile phones and laptops. According to Mr. Bongolan, “Depending on the response to the RDB 2, we might get to see a Canadian Dollar bond offering next.”
At the session’s closing, Consul General Angelica C. Escalona thanked the speakers from the Philippines as well as Ambassador of the Philippines to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria, who was present during the event. Consul General Escalona said, “We are very happy with the turn-out. Judging by the reactions to the presentations and the questions received, our kababayans are seriously interested in investing in Philippine retail instruments to grow their funds.”
Founder and CEO of b2Bpreneur Janet Lim, who attended the event, was enthusiastic about the opportunity the RDB 2 presents to contribute to Philippine nation-building. Ms. Lim said, “It would be a great project for us to take on. Imagine the impact if each of the nearly one million overseas Filipinos in Canada invests US$200 in the RDB 2.” END

20 July 2023, Toronto – Consul General Angelica C. Escalona called on Consul General Dyah Lestari Asmarani of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Toronto. The two Consuls General discussed Philippines-Indonesia relations, the two countries’ relations with Canada, and the forthcoming celebration of ASEAN Day on 08 August 2023.

14 July 2023, Toronto – Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno and Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman visited the Toronto Stock Exchange as guests for the market closing ceremony. They were joined by Philippine Ambassador to Canada Ma. Andrelita S. Austria and other Philippine government officials who were part of the delegation to the Philippine Economic Briefing and related meetings in Toronto on 13 to 14 July 2023.
The officials were met by Mr. David Clarke, Head of Government Affairs, TMX group. Prior to the closing ceremony, the officials were briefed on the work of the Toronto Stock Exchange and its interests in Asia. A discussion on the Philippine economy and global market challenges followed. “We are ready to facilitate connections with our listed companies”, Mr. Clarke said.
Secretary Diokno discussed the measures implemented by the Philippine government to facilitate economic growth and sustain recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We see a bright future ahead of us”, said Secretary Diokno, adding that he looks forward to having more Canadian companies invest in the Philippines.
