Toronto, 27 April 2023 – A franchise of a popular restaurant chain in the Philippines, The Original Barrio Fiesta, joined as one of the new entrants to the 2023 Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC). Representatives of the Philippine Consulate General visited the restaurant to try its prix fixe offering for entrée - beef caldereta and chicken inasal.
The restaurant, housed in the East York Town Centre, conveniently caters to the Filipino nurses who live nearby. They also produce and sell Philippine native delicacies, pastries and other Philippine products.

The Original Barrio Fiesta in Toronto, owned by Filipino-Canadian Karla dela Cruz, is the only franchise of the Philippine restaurant food chain in Canada. END

Toronto, 23 April 2023 – Bata to Batapreneur or b2Bpreneur , a non-profit organization established to promote and develop the entrepreneurial skills of children ages 6 to 29, held the last day of its series of workshops on 23 April 2023 which was attended by the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto as a show of support to the educational and empowering programs of b2Bpreneur.

The Minister of Education of Ontario, Mr. Stephen Lecce, was the keynote speaker during the workshop. He shared with the young audience the inspiring story of the emigration of his Italian parents to Canada which served as a motivation for his success. Minister Lecce encouraged the children of Filipino descent to thrive in their studies especially in STEM education. He also shared that educational robotics will be integrated soon in Ontario’s school curriculum. Minister Lecce believes in the innate ingenuity and passion of the children to learn.

One of the guest speakers during the b2Bpreneur workshop, Dr. Eileen de Villa, Chief Medical Officer of Toronto, emphasized and reiterated the importance of mental health.
The other guest speakers in the series of workshops presented on the four (4) pillars of b2Bpreneur: financial literacy, arts in business, technology & innovation and social ecology.
b2Bpreneur which was founded by Ms. Janet Lim, collaborates with community mobilizers, provincial and local leaders, as well as local businesses in organizing workshops and events that allow children to realize their potential in business entrepreneurship and learn the value of financial education at an early age. Toronto, 12 April 2023– Rejoining this year’s Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) is one of the pioneers of the Filipino restaurant scene in Toronto, “Kanto by Tita Flips”. Owner/Chef Diona Joyce, also known as Tita Flips, proudly shared with the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto and members of the Filipino-Canadian media Kanto’s new offerings which showcase native dishes from Mindanao and is only offered for the duration of FRMC. These include Palapa, a staple condiment of the Maranao tribe, which has a distinct spicy flavor and can be paired with any dish; and Chicken Piyanggang, a native dish of the Tausug tribe.
Kanto also took the opportunity to introduce their tasty fried chicken, “Chicken Joyce”, which is a play on the name of a chicken meal of a famous Filipino food chain and Chef Diona’s last name.
Chef Joyce started their business by selling food in one of the corners of the street in Toronto, hence the name, “Kanto”, which is street in Filipino. END

Toronto, 16 April 2023– The government officials of the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo and the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto met at the Sari Sari Filipino Cuisine for a luncheon hosted by the owners of the restaurant and in support to the 2023 Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC).

Mayor Berry Vrbanovic of Kitchener, Mayor Dorothy McCabe of Waterloo, Members of Parliament (MP) Bardish Chagger of Waterloo, MP Tim Louis of Kitchener-Conestoga and Councillor Aislinn Clancy of Ward 10 Kitchener, spent their sunny Sunday at the patio of Sari Sari Filipino Cuisine enjoying the restaurant’s prix fixe offering for FRMC 2023. They all shared that they are regular patrons of Sari Sari Filipino Cuisine. They were joined by the officers of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto who travelled to Kitchener, a two-hour drive away from Toronto. Present also were vloggers and social media influencers who came to experience FRMC 2023. Ms. Jeannette Enriquez, one of the owners of Sari Sari Filipino Cuisine, narrated how the restaurant was able to survive and even flourish during the pandemic due to the local and Filipino community support. They related that their customers are a good mix of Filipino and non-Filipinos who enjoy their Filipino menu.

The occasion was also an opportunity for the Consulate General to discuss possible collaborative projects and programs with the government officials in view of the significant and increasing number of Filipinos in the area. END

Toronto, 05 April 2023– The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto led by Acting Head of Post Rodney Jonas L. Sumague and Cultural Officer Maricel Samonte, together with the members of the Filipino-Canadian media, visited the Danforth branch of Casa Manila, a new entrant to this year’s Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC).
The owners of Casa Manila, Ms. Mila Nabor-Cuachon and Mr. Rizalde Cuachon, are proudly promoting the prix fixe offerings of its York Mills and Danforth branches which are both participating in the 2023 FRMC.
Casa Manila serves a “Kamayan style” plate with a choice between Premium Mixed Set and Premium Seafood Set. These sets consist of chicken crackling chicharon, crispy pork belly or lechon kawali, milkfish or daing na bangus (quarter cut), crispy baby squid or pritong pusit, coconut ginger vegetables, tropical vegetables with shrimp paste or pinakbet. Each of the Kamayan Premium Set is served with a choice of the Ultimate Halo-Halo, Buko Pandan con Hielo or Mais Con Hielo.
Casa Manila’s unique way of serving the dishes is done with the service staff playing a native Philippine drum and then clapping and saying “kamayan” in unison. Casa Manila boasts of using only healthy and home-made ingredients. END
